Boundaries and Expectations
These documents are meant to create a working foundation for what is expected by members of the Dance of the Spirit Moon tradition and students who are in the process of studying the tradition.
As a tradition we want to create standards of expectations that help us stand by our beliefs, ethics and moral code. This document is meant to serve as a means to achieve those goals. Dance of the Spirit moon is a living tradition and like all other things, this document is subject to change and enhancement as spirit guides us to do so.
Student and Dedicate Expectations
All students of Dance of the Spirit Moon are in the process of growth and discovery on this journey. Part of the journey of spiritual growth can be scary, unsettling and full of anxiety; while other parts of the journey are full of enlightenment and hope. For those reasons alone these are important expectations of those studying this tradition.
- All students and dedicates must be self-motivated to learn. Although some students will have access to mentoring, the student is the only person responsible for continuing their own cycle of growth.
- All students are expected to be responsible for their own level of dedication to the tradition.
- All students and dedicates of this tradition are expected to take care of their individual needs to keep them healthy enough to go through such an intense process of learning. This also shows a dedication to self, which is a large part of this tradition. These areas can include taking care of physical health concerns, mental health concerns, emotional health concerns, medication concerns, overall health issues, etc.
- All students and dedicates are expected to live a daily spiritual path. This tradition advocates the idea that we are Wiccan and spiritual beings 24 hours a day.
- All students and dedicates are encouraged to have a daily spiritual practice. DSM believes in conscious connection to Deity on a daily basis.
- DSM expects students to be a part of meeting, rituals, gatherings and things that develop the tradition as a whole.
- DSM expects that all students and dedicates will understand that they are a living representation of this tradition, themselves and the Deities we serve. All members of the tradition work towards presenting themselves with respect, honor and in accordance with the Rede. It is inappropriate to act in a way that reflects poorly on yourself, your tradition or your tradition sisters.
- DSM believes in honoring our ancestors and elders. All DSM students and dedicates are expected to treat the elders of the Pagan community with respect and honor.
- DSM gives respect to others traditions and differences. We do not want to judge another’s spiritual path.
- DSM believes in the power of the group mind. We shall be cautious of what we filter into the collective consciousness and be responsible from keeping unnecessary negativity from it.
- DSM does believe in the use of mind-altering substances to enhance our spiritual connection or experience and does not condone such use. For this reason, DSM students and dedicates are prohibited from participating in ritual or other tradition activities under the influence of mind altering substances.
- While DSM encourages students and dedicates to take care of their mental and physical health and does not discriminate against those required to use prescribed medications, it is vital that all participants be should in their proper mental state for participation in ritual and other tradition activities. If prescribed medicines cause mental incapacitation in any way, DSM requires the student or dedicate to abstain from participating in ritual or other tradition activities while under the influence of said medication.
- DSM is a sacred path but not a secret path. It is ok to share some of your teachings and what you are learning or practice with other people. We do ask that all dedication and initiation materials stay sacred and within the tradition itself, not to be shared with non-tradition people. Furthermore, while you are free to share your own teachings and experiences, those of others in the tradition are their own private experiences and should be respected as such at all times.
- We do not proselytize. If people find their way to this tradition then the Gods have led them here. We do not go out recruiting for new students or dedicates.
